About Time & Death and 7 Portraits

DEATH

Before death overwhelms me
I’m gonna have me some fun.
I ain’t worried about dying,
I’m gonna have me some fun.

JD

I’m gonna dance the soft shoe
Like I know how to…
I’m gonna croon a love tune
Like I know why I do.

I’m gonna eat ’til I bust…
‘Til I’m sick as a dog.
I’m gonna dress or not dress,
I couldn’t care less.

I’m gonna laugh at my troubles
Until they are gone.
I’m gonna smile for no reason
And cuss like scum.

I’ll toss up a finger
And flip life the bird.
Before death overwhelms me
I’ll have the last word.

ABOUT TIME

Time has no respect for age.  None what-so-ever.

Time does not take movement or agility into account.
It does not care about your arthritis or the pains in
your joints.  Doesn’t care that you move a bit slower
than you did before that gray piled up at your temples.
Doesn’t care about your gray hair or your bald head.

JD

Time is a runner.  A sprinter.  Time won’t slow down
and wait until you get yourself in gear. Until you get it
together!
Time has no concern for your aging
processes.  Time just keeps doing what it does.  It
keeps going and going and going.  Time sets and
keeps its’ own personal pace.  Never waiting.  Never
slowing.  Never playing ‘catch up’.  Never missing a beat.

Time has no heart.  No emotion.  No feeling. No
empathy or sympathy. Time does not care about you.

Know this! And act accordingly.

“Death” made me laugh!” And “About Time,” too true. Wonderful words and art work. Thank you.

    Jeannette,
I loved your laughing at the vicissitudes of life and death; they really are two side of the same piece if air. It reminds me of what another musician said of Leonard Cohen, and I paraphrase, “He was able to stare into the abyss and laugh” Thanks for your beautiful perspective. Oh yes, your artwork was grateful.

HI, Jeanette, I love your piece on time. It’s so true. It doesn’t care. We all say we need more time but time doesn’t care. Thank you.

Hi JD… What a wonderful opening to this issue…The spirit and good nature of Death, the profundity in About Time, and the joy in your artwork. Keep it up, you inspire!

I love her writing. JD gets to the truth of the matter without hesitation. The artwork expresses the many faces of time. I hope more of her writings will be published on this site. ONE IS NEVER TOO OLD TO BE CREATIVE!!!

The words are whimsical… and sobering. Your portraits are delightful. I really appreciate the colors.
